Been There, Done That...
Hi John. I have an '87 28.5. I recently replaced the counter top, sink, faucet/shower, and upper cabinet. When I began looking at the delamenating counter top, I discovered a lot of water rotted wood, so I ripped the old one out and cut a new one out of half inch marine ply wood. I cut it for a larger stainless steel sink and new faucet/shower combination. After it was cut to size, I applied (with contact cement) a layer of good formica counter top material (Home Depot) and used a router to trim the edges and holes. The cabinet I constructed out of a piece of 3/8 inch mahogany stained and finished to match boat interior and added a pair of teak louvered doors (West Marine). Much nicer than the smoked plex sliders!Looks a lot better (to me) and seems more functional.Whole project took about 3 easy days, 2 sixpacks, and around 100 bucks. I am not a carpenter, but with a little guidance/assistance from talented friends with the right tools, it was easy.Good luck!Rick
