Barrier coat / painting

I've been reading Don Casey and a few other books to try and understand the alchemy of barrier coating and painting. A few questions : 1. Will any epoxy such as West System 105 do as a barrier coat or do you have to use compatable products such as Interprotect 2000E/20001E followed by Micron extra with Biolux ? 2. If I can use West System, can you also use the same product with a thickener for blister and other small repairs ? 3. Would you use ablative or non ablative paints for the Caribbean ? The boat will be hauled out once a year during hurricane season !!! My idea for the paint job would be : Below waterline ---------------- Interprotect 2000E or WestSystem 105 followed by Micron extra with Biolux Above waterline --------------- Interprotect 2000E or WestSystem 105 followed by 2 part polyurethane - Interthane plus. Deck ----- Interthane plus. Do I need an epoxy primer - Interlux 404/414 ? Interior -------- Interlux Brightside polyurethane topside paint. As you can tell, I have a lot to do. Too many questions, I know, but I would appreciate any help or comments to any of the above. Many thanks

west system

Okay, that question covers some ground, so here we go: West System 105 resin w/205 hardener will make a good water barrier. It is not resistant to UV radiation so it must be painted or sealed with a UV protectant. West System 105 resin with either 206(prefered) or 205 hardener with 407 or 410 filler can be used to repair blisters that have not damaged an excessive amount of laminate. If the damaged area is very large it will need to be removed and replaced with new laminate. I prefer the 407 filler due to the fact that 410 is not very heat resistant, and doesn't do well under dark paint. West System has literature on repair available. West System also has other fillers for different types of repair. Bottom paint? The best choice would probably be Micron Optima. In Every test I have seen it always comes out on top, and works well for boats going in and out of the water. Above the waterline you really don't need a waterproof barrier as long as your gelcoat has not been removed, but hey whatever you want. Yes, use the primer with Interthane Plus. Interior paint is up to you. Hope this helps.
