I keep my boat moored in the Danvers river where the water is a mixture of salt and fresh water. Every year when the boat is hauled, I see a overly large accumulation of barnacles on the drive shaft and the propeller housing. Any suggestions for a bottom paint or treatment to eliminate this problem ? My boat is used very often during the season from May through the end of September.

paint them

I have always painted my prop and shaft. I prime the bare metal with Interlux 2000 (2 coats) and then finish off with two coats of Jack Tarr Vinyl bottom paint. I have done this for many years on both sail and power boats and never have barnacles. Just be sure not to paint the zincs.
