Does anyone know if I can replace my Barient 24 size winches with a 27 without modification of the mounting holes?

This url leads to a pdf of Barient's catalog which contains mounting hole and spacing information for each winch model. Doesn't look like 24 and 27 will match. But peruse yourself!

The 24s are standard...the 27s are self tailing. I'd love to find a pair of used 2 speed ST 24's.

Since you need to drill new holes anyway... don't he hesitant to analyze the current winch location. That's what I did when I installed rope clutches.. Ended up moving the cabin top halyard winches back almost a foot, and offset them to accommodate better line entry on drum. It was a big improvement.

unfortunately they are not going to fit I replaced single speed barlows for 2 speed barlows several years ago The bigger winches didnt fit barient & barlow are pretty much the same thing not the worst thing in the worst thing in the world What I did was put round head stainless screws with some caulking to fill the old holes You will probably find a better place for them
