what is the best way to keep barna cauls off the prop shaft an prop the boat only stays at the dock 4 days out of the week.

Paint it!

I paint the shaft and prop with bottom paint to keep the barnacles off. This does not affect performance. Even with ablative paint.

prime it first

I believe some type of undercoating is needed before you slap some copper based paint on your stainless shaft, I'd guess there is a bunch of stuff in the archives on this from people who know a lot more than me.
