What does everyone think, I was looking at adding an additional fridge with a small frezzer to my Hunter 37 when a friend of mine showed me what he did. For a mere $122.00 he installed a regular small portable bar fridge on his boat instead of the ( VERY EXPENSIVE) $1400.00 boat fridge / freezer. It seems to work just fine. He's figured he could wear out 10 of them before he hit the cost of one boat fridge. When at anchor it runs off his inverter. Draws only 2.8 amps per/hr. What does everyone think of this? Is it a good idea? Seems to be for me. Barrie

That's what we have.

The previous owner made the change. The unfortunate part is that they installed it where the stove used to be. The stove now occupies space on my patio. We normally unplug it when we leave shorepower. It seems well insulated because the beer is still cold at the end of the day. Have not tried running it off the inverter. But now that you bring it up I will try that and check the draw.

Say Ed........?

I'm tempted to do the same thing since I don't bake a lot and found a cooktop to put over the 'frig. Why is this arrangement a problem for you? It seemed like a good plan?

check this website for some really interesting refrigeraton options. Model 35 is really tempting me, due to low current draw, etc, etc. www.engel-usa.com

Koolatron?

Barrie: Is that what your friend got? I see this unit for $119.00 plus the usual S$H and the offer of adapters for AC and something they call Battery Saver (?) I agreed with you that even one a year will be a good investment. Ed (Schenck): Can you tell us if the draw is that low? (I lost your e-mail address Ed..(Hard disk crash)) Aldo alozano@monmouth.com
