Hi All,
I just added a couple of pictures of "Bandipur" in hopes that the owner
is on this forum. She's in Clear Lake Marina in the parking lot near
Nasa Rd. 1.

Hi All,

I hope everyone in the Clear Lake, Kemah and Galveston area weathered
Hurricane Ike better than myself. I lost my Vega #2491 in the storm,
she sunk in the marina. From what I've been told, the mast broke off
and something put a hole in it and down she went.

Our whole marina was totally destroyed, I've seen an arial satellite
picture of it, what a sad situation.

Good luck to all!

Lori

Dear Lori,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Does you insurance cover you in
situations like this?

I can only imagine how you must feel. Are you sure that the boat can't
be salvaged. Trev (v2915)

Unfortunately, I did not have hull coverage on it.

I'm not sure if it can be salvaged or not. Will have to bring it up and
take a look.

Not sure how long it will take to do that, as the marina is a total
loss.

The longer its under water the harder it will be to salvage, especially
the Beta engine.

Lori

Lori,
Is "Bandipur" #2491? If so, from what I can tell she is in one piece
and sitting on the hard. I will be down there on Friday if you would
like me to take a closer look.

No Bandipur isn't 2491. My boat's name was "Spoket Albin".

I was in a marina on Galveston Island.

Thanks anyway.

Sorry to hear about your loss Lori. Good luck with the salvage. We lost a Hallberg Rassey 35 a number of years ago. It had a new Universal diesel in it. A friend bought the the engine as salvage from the insurance company. Hosed it off and soaked the alternator in fresh water. He was able to start it up the next day. It had been submerged for several days. Even if you can't salvage the engine you have many salvageable items on the boat. I once owned another Vega that had been totaled in a collision with a sport fishing boat. Mast was knocked down when the fishing boat went over the cabin. I bought the boat from the insurance company and made a bunch of money on the parts. Just thinking of a few items off of the top of my head that can be underwater for days would be sails, cleats, fairleads, blocks, sheets, halyards, turnbuckles, pulpit, push pit, winches, ground tackle, etc. All is not lost and there tons of boats out there for sale. It is a buyers market. Another thing to look at is why did she sink? Did the dock come apart? Did another vessel break free and hit her? You might have options on somebody elses insurance. Best of luck. Walt
