Balmar MC-612 Hook up

My MC-612 sensing circuit and ground is now hooked to the alternator. To get a more accurate reading, based on discussions here, I am going to hook up the sensing hot to the positive battery terminal. My questions is this unit has two ground wires. One in the Ford plug and the other an "independent" ground, both black. I can either hook both ground leads to the negative battery post or leave one on the alternator and the other on the negative battery post, but which lead where if I do that. Balmar says either way. Looking for any input from experience. I don't want to reroute both wires if I don' have to.

I ran them both to the alternator.
