Ballast Water

I finally have a wet slip and was wondering what other folks do with a water ballast system to keep the odors, slime, etc. down in the ballast tank itself. Should I put bleach in the tank? Are there other suggestions.Thanks much in advance for your guidance

We have a 2001 h260, which is splashed in the spring and hauled in the fall and we’ve never had a problem with ballast water odor.If you pull the vent plug, the stink will just about knock you over.In the fall, the travel lift operator has learned to keep the boat over the slip until the tank is empty. Seems the dilution helps. When he used to immediately move the boat over the hard, the fragrance lingered.Pauls/v The Lord Nelson

Through the vent hole and bleachIn the five years my boat has been in the water I have never had a problem with smell.

Fill the tank with fresh water...

after you launch - it takes awhile, then add a good health dose of bleach - I just emptied mine after over a year and no smell at all.

Use a funnel to pour a gallon of bleach into the tank vent hole. It will take care of your problems.

The Boat Marina

Rick, it appears that within an hours drive, The Boat is the only game in town now assuming all the bad stuff I hear about things in Shalimar are true. My trailer needs work so a longer tow was not in the cards. Yep, prices have gone up but not too much - course the works not done yet and the final tally counted. Thanks again for the advice. Fair winds -- I'll be traveling for a while.

Chlorine

I go to my pool store and get some crystal chlorine and put in my ballast tank. I have never had a problem. I put in my water tank as well to keep it fresh. We drink bottled water and wash dishes with the tank water.Corky

water bed conditioner

We have been using water bed conditioner and it works great. no odors or build up of any kind. Water is clear when we pull the boat out in fall.

Bleach not always required

It is not always necessary to treat the ballast water. I have never treated the ballast water in my boat and have never had a noticable odor when removing the plug even after several months.
