Ball Valve

In " backflow into bowl", Bob Faelten mentions installing a ball valve into the discharge line. I'm assuming this is between the head and the holding tank. What are the thoughts on this? If I don't have a high loop, is this a good temporary solution until re-plumbing the whole thing?

Why not vented-loop?

Seems like it would not be any more difficult to install a vented-loop. And it might be cheaper, not sure what a marelon ball-valve costs. You would probably need one new section of hose to get enough height with the loop. See Related Link. Problem with the ball-valve is that you restrict the flow, the hole through the valve is quite a bit smaller than the hose. Seems like an opportunity for a backup.

What Ed said...

I can only add that it's always cheaper and easier to do it right the first time than it is to do something else that will prob'ly only cause a whole new set of problems without fixing the first one.
