Hi Everyone, I just purchased an H170 with a venture trailer. I will pick it up next month. In the meantime I need to get a hitch and ball mount for my 2000 jeep cherokee. Does anyone have an H170 with a venture trailer and if so, do you know the hight of the ball for a level trailer? I need to figure out what drop/riser size I need for the ball mount. Thanks in advance.

drop/riser size

Sean, Regardless of the trailer make, measure from the ground to the top of the hitch box opening. Then, with the trailer level, measure from the ground to the bottom of the receiver on the trailer. The difference is the rise (or drop) height. You'll find this information at the web sites of various hitch manufacturers and retailers.

I don't have the trailer yet.

Hi Rick, thanks for the response, but I don't have the trailer yet so I can't take a measurement on the trailer - only on the hitch. That is why I was asking if anyone already had one if they could measure their trailer from the ground to the ball reciever with the trailer level. -Sean

Sean, I should have read your first post more carefully. If you don't hear from a Venture/170 owner, maybe the dealer or seller can tell you the receiver height. Good luck, happy sailing, and pray for an early spring!

To bottom of receiver or inside top of receiver

Hi Carl, Thanks for the reply. Is that 17" to bottom of ball receiver or to inside top of ball receiver? The difference could be 2-3 inches depending on ball height. Thanks, Sean

To the Tongue

When I called Venture, they didn't really specify. I guessed to the tongue, because that's where the trailer "rests" once it's on the ball. I went out )in the cold) this AM and remeasured just to make sure I remembered correctly, and it's 17" to the tongue. I have a stock Hidden Hitch that came with the riser for my Mini SUV (Honda CRV), and 17" is exactly where the riser that came with the hitch was set, so this might be some kind of standard.... Carl.
