Got back early in the week from Cabo after crewing on the Baja HaHa (my 2nd time). Biggest participation ever this year for the HaHa rally - about 165 boats (700-800 people) "cruising to the Cape" from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico from Oct 30-Nov. 11. Three legs on the trip: First, San Diego to Turtle Bay, about 360NM to a small fishing village of about 2000. 2nd: 240NM Turtle Bay to Bahia Santa Maria, a protected but essentially uninhabited bay just north of the popular Magdalena Bay stop. 3rd: Santa Maria to Cabo - 180NM. Beach parties with music at each stop. Good weather -swimable water 75 degrees+ at each stop, winds not more than 30 knots (and that only one night; there was some no-wind-wallowing). Also, surprising, had 4+ bars cell phone coverage at each stop to tell those at home what they missed!Only serious injury was 6 broken ribs (ouch!) to a crewmember on one boat in a round-down. No serious mechanical breakdowns to note.Great trip, and good tans all around! Now back to rain and 45 degrees! (I know, for some of you, that IS SUMMER!)Here's a pic of one HaHa'er, the Patricia Bell, a home-built schooner, with Cabo's arches. Check the reports on Latitude 38's (major HaHa spnsor) site.
