On my last sail of the summer a stainless steel bail fell from the top of the mast on to the deck. It is made from 1/4 inch stainless and goes arount the forward part of the mast. I can't figure out what it's purpose is. Any ideas?

Jib halyard

We live on an '85 h40. I have a bail near the top of my jib halyard. I think it must be to keep halyard away from the forstay. I think I have a picture of it from when we stepped the mast this spring. Give me a week and I'll try to post onto my web page. Mike sends S/V Camelot

For the Spinnaker Halyard

Tom, My mast has a bail that is used for the Spinnaker Halyard. A block attaches to it for the halyard and allows it to swing forward of the headstay...which is what a spinnaker halyard should do. The bail is bolted to the top of the mast truck. Maybe yours came loose?

Bail for Spinnaker halyard

Tom,My 28.5 had one that looked just like your description and that of Joe. My 34 does not and I wonder if someone knows where I can get one as I intend to purchase a spinnaker this winter. Thanks
