Does anyone know how much does deisel fuel cost in the Bahamas. I am planing a trip and considering the cost of Solar Panels vs just running the generator.

The diesel, even name brands, can be very dirty & water infested in the Bahamas, so I strongly recommend you filter it as you fuel.

Hate to interrupt this thread, but have a question for 2hulls4me. What is the marina situation over that way since Katrina, and how difficult is it to fine diesel, without having to run way off the ICW.

The price of Diesel in places like West End, Marsh Harbor and Nassau is just a couple cents more per gallon than you find in our local marinas. In some of the out islands you could be talking twice the regular price if you find it. The Bahamas is an archipielago of approximately 700 islands covering nearly 650 nautical miles. The quality of the fuel also drops the farther you get away from the populous centers. Fuel to the out islands is shipped in 55 gallon containers for local use. These containers are filled by regular pumps and subject to condensation and contamination so you should filter it before using. Let's put it this way we do not jerry-can fuel when going to the Bahamas as we will fill in Grand Bahama or Bimini before continuing or prior to returning.

Fuel in New Orleans
My advice is to not come. Last year, before Katrina I cruised from NO to Destin. Everything from gulfport to Destin Destin was distroyed. Orange beach had opened however only one marina had fuel and power. Now, well let me put it this way. Katrina was miles east of New Orleans. We were on the dry side. The photos you see of New Orleans are nothing to the distruction east of here. For Instance. From the water to five miles in there is nothing in Gulf Shores. It is beyond beleif. I am moving.
