Avoid an "N" in the wind direction
Rudy, you didn't say were you are coming from but your address is Islamorada so I'll assume your in the keys.Main thing is to avoid Northern winds. The kick up against the northbound gulf stream and make nasty steep waves. You want an "S" in the wind direction.Second thing is the current, runs around 2.5 knots northbound so you have to calculate that into your navigation. I usually aim for a heading that would put me about 20m south of my destination (Bimini). Acutally coming from the Keys (I'm in Miami) is better because you can head east and ride the stream up.When you get to the Bahamas, fly a yellow quarantine flag until you clear customs, then fly the Bahamian courtesy flag. They will charge you $100 to clear customs and imigration, and includes a fishing license. It's a nice sail you can make in a day, its abour 45mi from Miami to Bimini.
