what is the Whale ?
Most vessels can not continue across the banks to the sea of Abaco because the water is too shallow. Don't Rock Passage is used by vessels with a draft of less than 3 ft. Most must go around Whale Cay through a cut going back out on to the ocean, once there you can then re-enter the banks and into the Sea of Abaco on the other side of Whale Cay.
More vessels and lives have been lost here than any other place in the Bahamas combined I was told.
If the Whale is in a "rage" no one can go through. There was a cruise ship terminal here that was closed because of the rage in the Whale delayed the schedules to such an extend it was abandoned.
The wind has died down today quite a bit and we are planning to try it tomorrow morning. If all goes as planned we will be in Marsh Harbour after lunch.
