We are beginning to prepare for a crossing to the Bahamas sometime in the winter / spring of '93. We live on the Gulf coast of Florida so would be coming through on the Caloosahachee and crossing from Miami. Not sure of the best time of year weather wise, and know for sure that we want to cross en masse. We intend to stay in the Bahamas for 3-4 weeks and would then like to return in a group back to Miami. If you are interested, please let us know and we'll start exchanging ideas. Thank you.

Bahamas bound

Currently planning to do the same thing this winter. My boat is in the Chesapeake now and I plan to head south Sept. and go over to the Bahamas for a month or so. Schedule is pretty open right now. Please put me on your list and let's stay in touch. Also, I am looking for a good location on the Fl east coast to keep my boat for the winter. Maybe in the Stuart area, but I'm completely open - boat is a 37.5 and $$ is an issue. If you or anyone has advice, please let me know. email is dcdonc@hotmail.com

Jim: Generally the best time for your trip is in May or June. Reason is the seas are more placid and it is before hurricane season. Also it is not too hot. Most important for a pleasant crossing over the Gulf Stream is to avoid making the passage when there is any northerly component to the wind. Prevailing winds are SE 10 to 15 kts. Nights are calmer and allow landfall with good light for arrival (to avoid coral heads). The strong northerly drift means you should start from below Miami if you are going to Bimini. FLL is okay for West End. No Name Harbor on Cape Florida is a good anchorage and staging area from Miami. Silvan Lake is the same for Ft. Lauderdale. Would like to go along.
