Badly Scratched Mast - Repaint or Touchup?

Hi, I have a 1985 S2 9.2 with an "off white" paint on it which - through the years - has become pretty badly scratched up. I've been told that a repainting of the mast would be thousands of dollars and involves removal of all hardware.

Has anyone tried to touch up the mast with touch up paint?

Just curious.

this mast is easy to work on you could do the work your self over the winter in your spare time and you might spend 150.00 to 200.00 dollars doing it ...you can roll a tip the mast...its not that big of a deal ...i think there was a how to about this written by Tim R on this forum you may want to look at

Are you sure that your mast is painted and not a anodized ?? Paint will chip peel or flake off It is 'on' the aluminum. If the mast is anaodized the coating is more 'in' the surface of the amuminim . It can be scraped or scuffed off, it it won't flake or peel. There is also the possibility that it is painted and anaodized. There is a thread somewhere in this forum disscussing different coatings s2 used. Is the mast original ? My point is just make sure that what ever paint you use is compatible with what ever is already on your mast.
My s2 8.5 has a black painted mast. I am planning on painting this spring .. I'm simply going to scuff or lightly sand the black paint and probally use "easypoxy" paint and simply cover the mask the hardware with blue tape .
