I have a 1980 30' Hunter -recently purchased. Had the local boat yard do a bottom job and replaced the piece of metal under the compression post in the bilge. During this work they found that the wood under the mast had deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Before I OK the work, has anyone had to do this type of replacement? What type of materials were used? Was it expensive? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Bill

I do not remember anyone with a H'30 having this issue. Much of the expense would be in re-doing the gelcoat. If you need to do this anyway it may be a good time to do everything. The R/R of the old wood will be the easy part. They can cut out the section with a saw and remove all of the rotten wood (plywood). The part that gets cut out will be replaced and glassed/resined into place.

If you want to save yourself a lot of money I would suggest that you redo the non-skid with Kiwi Grip. It looks good and hold up very well. You will want to redo the entire cabin top at the same time.
