Bad Wood Under Mast

I have a 1980 30' Hunter that I bought recently. I had the local boat yard do a bottom job, and then they replaced the iron block under the compression post. During this work they discovered the wood under the mast was bad. Before I OK the replacement work, has anyone had to do this type of work? What materials work best, and is it difficult to do? Expensive?? Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. Bill

Look in Boat info, Hunter Owner Modifications. There are a couple of methods of fixing the problem there.
