bad sheet angle for headsail

I have a hunter 25.5. It came with a 150 head sail. When driving to windward I have the jib car all the way aft and I still cant get enough horizontal sheet angle to tighten up the foot of the headsail. I thought about replacing my jib track with a longer track so i can move the car more aft. (I hate drilling more holes in the deck). Then I thought about replacing the jib block with a snatch block, plus mounting a second snatch block further aft. That way I could swap the jib sheet between blocks without having to rev them. (had this idea was before I priced snatch blocks). Any suggestions? thanks... Ted

Two Ways

Ted, A quick method would be to sheet the 150 to a block on the toe rail. This does widen the slot and is less efficient than more inboard sheeting but much better than the lead position you have with the standard track. The better method is to get a piece of T-Track and extend it behind your existing track. This is what I did with my 25.5. The folks at JSI cut a couple of pieces of 1" track, about 22" long, which extended the track on each side back to the cockpit coaming, allowing me to move the lead blocks back for good sheeting with my 150. This only takes 4 or 5 bolts on each side. HTH Dick Vance H-25.5 "Honey Bear"

dick, great idea. thanks....

Dick, Great idea. I never thought of adding track to my existing track. thanks too for mentioning the toe rail block. That has been a mystery since I bought the boat. The previous owner had a block shackled to the toe rail. I could never figure out what it was for. I thought it was for a spinaker but the boat never had a one. I bet he was sheeting the jib through them!! I'm off to the store for some track. thanks.. Ted St. Augustine FL.

One more option

I had the same problem. I took the T track off and moved it back one set of holes and it ended up being right at the coming and than added 1 foot of T track to the front and this made for a better looking job.
