Hey Guys - been trying to get my Volvo Penta MB7B running but have
not had much luck, so maybe you all can help me with a bit of advice.
Here my story sad but true:

I bought my Vega last November. The diesel ran just fine and I took it
out in December and January. In February I went to the boat and
started it to charge the batteries and run the diesel a little to
keep it limber, well it ran for a short time and then quit. I checked
if I had fuel and there was plenty. I checked the filters and they
were not plugged (even replaced them). There was no contamination in
the fuel so I checked the primary lift pump and it was not pumping. I
replaced the pump and then started bleeding air out of the fuel
lines.
I know I have fuel up to and through the first filter and also fuel
to
the fuel filter located on the motor, no air present in either. I
know I have fuel to the inlet of the injector pump. I bled the
injector pump and then tried to bleed the injectors. No fuel what so
ever was coming out of the injector lines located at the injectors. I
then tried to check and make sure that fuel was coming out of the
injector pump so I removed the line at the discharge of the injector
pump, spun the motor over and no fuel came out of the discharge of the
pump.

I have a sinking feeling my injector pump has gone south. What do you
all think? Is there something I may have missed? Any help would
definately be appreciated. If the injector pump is bad order how much
do these things cost?

Hi Rick

Before you give up undo the bolt on the front of the injector pump (17mm I
think) so it is loose but not out. Turn the engine over a few times and wait
until fuel dribbles out around this bolt, this entails the injector pump has
been bled. Tighten up bolt and then undo the pipe attached to the top of the
forward most injector. Turn the engine over again a few times and fuel should
squirt out (it may take a little time). If it doesnt then it sounds as if the
injector pump is no longer!! New they cost a fortune so try and find one
second hand. I sometimes have spares that I strip, clean and calibrate. They
cost between £200 - £250. I have sent them to the US before and not had a
complaint yet. If you can find a second-hand MD7A then go for it. I think you
will find that your engine is an MD7A not an MD7B. I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
