Bad ground in mast

I have a bad ground wire in my mast, as a temp fix I am using the mast to ground the mast lights. My question is how do I get at the wiring at the base of the mast from inside the cabin? The boat is a 1989 Hunter 33.5? What I believe is the compression post is glued and screwed together and I don't want to take that apart as I might split the wood.

Compression Post

On our 84 H31,if you remove the head door jam side of the compression post, it gives you access to the mast wires. What you see on the outside is not the actual compression post. It's just teak trim. Look close and you will see teak plugs. Under these plugs are the screws that hold this trim piece on. This is an easy job, so go for it !! Hope this helps, Bob PS: Some Hunters have been prone to compression post rot. This is just another reason to get a look inside.
