Another difficulat one!

Obviously the best way is to remove and replace the tank. I did see some hypalon tank liners at a Miami show abotu 4 years ago, but the plumbing is still a problem. If the tank is stainless, the rust can't be too bad and gelled gas should be dissolvable with the right solvents, such as acetone or other. Can you get a sample out of the tank to test? If you can, then try to dissolve it in acetone, if it goes up then dilute with fresh gasoline. Then stir around somehow and siphon out and pump through. Be VERY careful about fire!! Then run the engine with several changes of filter. My only real expertise on this is with old cars where the gas tanks can be cleaned and resealed with an epoxy (see Hemmings for ads). Hope this is of some help but you may be best in another forum! Thanks Jim W

Thanks Jim here is another tip from another form Jack. I used the drill as a vibrator to cause the contents of the tank to dance around in side the tank and it knocked loose all the stuck stuff. the alcohol will mix with any water that might be present and then the water and alcohol mixture will mix with the gasolene.and every thing will be held in suspension and it is important to drain the mixture out as soon as possible.mine was full of rust and scale.after I put it all back togeather i disconnected the fuel line at the carborator and installed a temperary electric fuel pump with a line returning the fuel through a filter back the fill p ort of the tank and just let it run for 30 minuts to clear the lines then removed the pump and connected the fuel line bacl to the carboreator.
