There was a recent thread here about buying a new headsail from Bacon's in Annapolis so I thought I'd post an update for those interested.

While Bacons is not a sail loft, and they do sell lots of used sails, you can buy a new sail from them. They will job out the sail to a number of domestic or offshore sail lofts, depending on material ordered and options selected. Most of their hi-tech material sails are made for them in either China or Hong Kong. Most of the cruising Dacron sails are made domestically. But it is entirely possible that a number of "domestic" lofts also use offshore makers, too. When ordering a sail from Bacons, you can specify that you want a domestic maker if you so choose.

Also of interest is that the finished sail will, in fact, carry the Bacons name on it and that Bacons will stand by an warranty work, or fit problems, that may come up. And, if you live in a "reasonable" distance from Annapolis, they will come to your boat to measure, an important factor if ordering a main and you have special needs (like a bimini, for example, which may require a custom leech a bit shorter than the factory sailplan). As with most sail makers/brokers, ordering a sail now can often result in a significant discount if you ask for one, Bacons included.

I have been to Bacon and Associates many times and have walked through all of their inventory. They have used sails from Optimist dinghies ot Whitbread boats. Also have a fair amount of used sailboat hardware. Just call them and ask and you might be surprised.
I have also bought used sails from them and they are very accommodating, knowledgeable and nice to work with. Kuddos to Bacon (and I'm not talking about the fattening kind).
