Thought I would upload some pics of my new backyard boatlift I built. It works great and was really easy to build. Sure is a safer and easier way to get my Mariner off and on the trailer now. Should have built it years ago! LOL :} The pics can be found in my album.

It looks great, Codfather! It's not only a fast and easy way of taking her off the trailer, but it's safe. I've been taking my O'Day 222 off my trailer for years using sailboat stands and a hydraulic jack, and I'm hesitant to encourage people to try it because of the dangers involved. Having been a power company lineman and being familiar with rigging and moving large objects has helped me in being able to do the same type of things with my boat in my back yard, and I've saved a lot of money through the years in the process. I take a certain amount of pride in knowing that I don't have to be dependent on a boatyard to do the same things that I can do myself in my own backyard. I've noticed that everyone has their own different way of doing this task, and there's no right way, or wrong way as long as it's safe. I have found that by doing your own boat maintenance, makes you more and more familiar with your boat. Thank you for sharing this.
Smooth Sailing!
Joe

Thanks Joe! I should have built this years ago. Now I'm working on a roof idea for it, sure would protect my baby better over the winter. Some tarps for temporary side walls could be in order too. Launch day is getting closer so I'm getting more excited! WOO-HOO!

I sure would like to see your boat lift but have no idea of how to find your album. I've just purchased a O'Day 25 with a swing keel that I will want to keep well maintained. We are not spring chickens anymore and this is a down size from our previous boat which was getting to be a bit more than we cared to sail and maintain.
Thanks for your help, George

Gudenuph....Look under Owner Directory menu and find the Owner Photo Album section. Click on my name (codfather) and my album should show.

Nice job on the lift. Looks stable and secure. I am most jealous of the other pictures. The area there is beautiful, and even more so for me right now in South Central Texas where the temp is over 100F and the water murky or brown. Maybe in a few years when I retire I could come up around that area to look for a summer hideout. Don't like snow except on postcards.

Eppoh....Yes I feel very lucky to have found this little paradise in a mad world! My wife and I own and run a B&B here on the island. Here is a link to our site, stop by and see us if you come up this way. We have some dear friends here that have moved up from Texas you could meet. We also have 5 acres of land for sale coming on the market, would make a great hideaway!
