I recently purchased a 1980 H27 W/Yanmar 18hp,2gm20F upgrade. The throttle pulls to aft to accellerate instead of push forward. Looked down pedastal and can't seem to figure out how to reverse cable lever without hitting the wheel chain. Can I change something at the engine side to correct this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Unique Mod?
John, this sounds like a unique modification associated with the engine upgrade. So most of us don't have a clue! Have you tried to ask the prior owner? If he is not available, how about the yard that did the work? David Lady Lillie

On our last boat
(a Watkins 27) our throttle was backwards as you describe. I fabbed up an aluminum plate bellcrank that I drilled and bolted on to the throttle lever of the engine to attach the cable to the opposite side of the pivot point. It worked great, was cheap and took me an afternoon from start to finish. I had aluminum stock I'd gotten from Home Depot leftover from a previous project. Tools included a hacksaw w/metal blade, drill and dremel. Doing mods in the pedestal were out of the question for the reasons you describe. It ain't rocket science and it doesn't have to be pretty. Just make sure it's bolted together with nylon lock nuts so it can't vibrate apart. Hope this helps.

John, we have the same problem on our 1980 H27 with a Yanmar 1GM10 that was refitted by previous owner in 1991. Ours has the Yacht Specialties pedestal. Have yet to figure out how to reverse it. Rick, could you post a photo of your mod?

but I'm afraid the Watkins is long gone and residing somewhere on the Hudson River. I'll try to describe it a little better. If you locate where the throttle cable attaches to the engine it is probably at the end of a small arm which rotates a shaft on or near the injector pump (I'm guessing because ours was a 2QM.) Anyway, what I did was to make another arm which bolted onto the original but was longer so that one side of it extended to the other side of the shaft. That's where I attached the cable. Think of a see-saw laying on it's side. I just made it so I could attach the cable to the other side of the lever to move it in the opposite direction. I hope this helps.
