I've searched all over for the dimensions of the backstay chainplate on a H-37 Cutter. Great descriptions on the site for the shroud plates , are they in fact the same?
Our boat is on the hard in Mexico and I am fabricating plates here before heading back down in a couple of weeks. All I have are photos as far as comparing sides (for which I have drawings) to back. It almost looks as though they might be the same.
Thanks much, I can't tell you how much great info I've gleaned from this site.
Incidentally, do check them -- ours snapped without showing any warning signs. (Just visual inspection, no penetrant.)

I'll row out to the boat after supper and check the dimensions...stay tuned.

Ok, here you are. (All measurements done with a tape, so +/- 0.001" :D)

Stock: 3/16" SS Flat bar
Width: 1 1/2"
Length: 17"
Bolts: 5 x 3/8" @ 2 1/2" centers (starting 3/4" from bottom)
Hole for clevis pin is @ 3/4" from top and is built up to 3/8" thick with welded washers.

I don't know if these are the same as the chainplates for the shrouds; perhaps others can chime in?

All this measuring is going to cost you, Bill. As you are a new member of the forum, I would like the following info for the database:

Boat Name (and former name, if applicable)
Boat's Home Port
Hull Identification Number (HIN)
or Model Year if you don't know HIN

You can PM me here at HunterOwners (can't remember if you have to have a certain minimum # of posts to PM...) or email the info to jameslegere[at]eastlink.ca if you are not comfortable posting the details on the database thread.

Oh, and Welcome Aboard!

Wow Jim, thanks for the quick reply (except I'm disappointed in your level of accuracy;)
Sounds exactly like the shroud plates, except I had mine figured at 1/4". I'm using 3/8" stock on my replacements so that's moot anyway.
I think I'll go ahead and make an extra, might as well do the back while I'm at it. The one that broke on mine was in the oxygen deprived area, as so many commented. And I found a hairline crack in the same place on another (under the caulk.) I was kind of thinking the the backstay wouldn't have the same anaerobic problem, but I'll do it anyway since I can't look at it from here.
Pretty exciting when they break way offshore. Incidentally if you flip a broken one over and drill the bottom hole out to 1/2" you end up with a serviceable temporary repair. (With one less bolt in the bulkhead.)
I'll PM you the info, I also just put it in my profile.
Thanks again to you (and others) for an incredible service.
