backstay bridle for 6.9, 6.7, etc

Hi
I’m trying to setup my new S2 6.9 and need help trying to figure out the backstay contraption or bridle . I see where the backstay from the mast connects to a small block. From there it looks like a short wire should go from one backstay chainplate through the small block and back down to the other backstay chainplate. I’m guessing that somewhere in between there should be something similar to a boom vang to attach and pull on to apply tension to the backstay. Does anyone have pictures or a good description of hardware and how this works? Thank you…

Sounds like you have a backstay adjuster rather than a stock setup. I suggest you post a photo to the main ask all sailors board.

Try the S2 6.7, 6.9, and 22 Class Association, too...

I looked over the factory backstay setup on my 6.9 yesterday. My boat is on the trailer and the rigging is all in a tangle in the cockpit, but I will try to transate what I saw:

The backstay comes down from the masthead and terminates in a triangle plate about 4 feet from the transom. From the triangle plate the backstay splits into two roughly 4-foot sections that go down to chainplates on either side of the transom to form a bridle. For the tensioner, there is a stainless steel ring that has two single blocks shackled to it. This assembly is located inside the apex of the bridle. Each block rolls on a separate bridle stay. At the bottom of the ring is a small tackle similar to the boom vang with its own camcleat. The tackle descends from the ring to an eyestrap on the transom that is located off center (to give clearance to the tiller) within a few inches of the starboard backstay chainplate. When you put tension on the tackle, the two blocks roll down the bridle and pull the two angled sections together, tightening the backstay considerably. If this isn't clear let me know and I will try to decipher it for you. Good luck!
