I am finally getting my '85 H23 back together and need to put the stanchions for the grab lines on the deck. Are there supposed to be backing plates under them? The stanchions and grab lines were buried under a squirrel's nest in the anchor well when I got the boat and there were no bolts or plates with them. I was not sure if the factory used washers or if I need to have plates made up. Thanks... Randy Simmons H23 "Munchkin"

Have plates made

Randy: Have S.S. backing plates made. You can go to a machine shop and they can cut and drill these pieces for you. It will probably be scrap stock and should be inexpensive. A lot easier that trying to place 4 washers on each stanchion too. I would also recommend they you try to get some butyl tape to put under the stanchion base. This stuff stays plyable and is UV stable (used for windows). If you cannot find buytl tape then use a life caulk product for bedding the on the deck.
