Backing plates for Sinlocks?

I have a 2006 Hunter 38. After replacing the running rigging late last year the lines slipped in the Spinlock clutches, so now my boatyard is replacing the Spinlocks clutches. Question: Are there aluminum backing plates glassed into the coach roof that my guys can tap into? Or, do they need to remove the headliner to access a nut underneath the headliner?

Yes, what you said: the backing plate is glassed in and the fasteners tap into it.

Aluminum plates yes. And that's the easy part.

Getting the bolts out of the plate without a) breaking the bolts or b) stripping the holes and using the same holes again ................... it's all a crap shoot . You name it, I've seen it while re-bedding my cleats.

Pray a little, swear a lot, it's all the same. All I can suggest is to take it super slow and see if you can work the bolts CW and CCW and eventually get them out, bent, twisted, and stripped. In several cases I've increased the bolt diameter to get a new hole. Use a parting compound when you do install new bolts to avoid this in the future. Good luck.

The Spinlock clutches can be rebuilt. Cam, base and handle are in the service kit. No need to remove the clutch to service. XTS service kit

Are you certain that the clutches are at fault? All clutches are rated for a small range of line diameter and if outside those specs the line will either slip or jamb. Yes all clutches certainly wear over time but did the line slip prior to replacing them? Also are your guys replacing the clutches with a different size Spinlock clutch? I would have expected that the original mounting holes for a direct replacement spinlock would be equivalent.

You can replace the guts of Spinlock clutches with new cartridges
