Backing plate trouble

I just got my H22 launched for the season, and noticed that the bottom of the motor mount backing plate is disintegrating. She's n the water on a slip, it will not be easy for me to pull her out at this time. Should I worry about this? All seems well on the top and inside the hull. Do you think someone could repair this from where she lies in the slip?

You should be able to replace that backing plate in the water. When when we had our 22 I did mine in the slip. I took two pieces of plywood, sealed them and gave them several coats of paint. they stood up to several years of use.

If the interior backing plate is in good condition, I would just make sure the mounting bolts are tight and worry about it after you haul it. Is that a piece of plywood that has disintegrated between the mount and the hull? Mine does not have that, mount sits directly against hull. Mine also happens to have a hefty piece of 2X4 as the backing plate, which isn't ideal, but the wood is solid and I watch it (came that way from prev owner).

Doesn't seem like that disintegrated ply plays any significant role in holding the mount, as long as it isn't loose at all. Crazy Dave's the expert, though.

I believe the plate on the outside is aluminum? Stainless steel would never fall apart like that?

A 9.8 HP motor on an H22 sounds heavy. I was told to not go any larger than a 9.9 on my H240 so as not to put too much weight on the mount. What's the max recommendation for the H22?

i have a 23' so it may be a bit different. i added a piece of 3/4" plywood to the factory area of the motor mount that is built into the transom. i also used a piece of lexan between the back of the motor bracket and the outside of the transom. the bracket is rated for 120lbs and i have had a 110lb motor on it. i currently use a 65lb motor, evinrude 8hp two stroke yachttwin, 1995.
