In 1967 I purchased an O'Day Javelin from a dealer in northern New Jersey. We moved to Arizona in 1974, and except for some lake sailing there and in the mountains of southern Colorado, it's been stored. Now that I've retired, I'm bringing the boat to Palm City, FL, where it will be sailed on the St. Lucie and Indian rivers. My wife insists on having a "kicker" to get us back to the boat launching ramp if my rusty skills fail me. Any suggestions for a suitable small outboard? I have some concerns as to mounting anything too heavy on that relatively fragile transom. In addition, I need to replace some mast parts (rollers, etc). Any good sources would be apprciated. Small Outboard

Look around for a motor, last year I lucked out and got a used/never had gas in it Yamaha 2 hp long shaft from a boat dealer. Great motors. Paid $350, would have been twice as much new, the had it laying around (not too many speed boat owners had a use for it). I have it on my Oday Daysailer and attached to a separate motor mount I got from a local sailing shop. You could probably go up to 8 hp but it's not necessary. lived in psl, and sailed that area, the current can be bad under the bridges such as ft pierce to the causway, but at that time i used a minn kota 35 lb thrust using a lawn mower battery, would recomend getting a 50lb minn kota, on the javelin, you should nave no problem. there is a sail club in that area you can check out for more info and suggestions.
