Does anyone know of a good replacement for my balboa 26 boom/gooseneck. my boom is a little bent, plus the gooseneck is broke, the ears are broke off the cast piece leading into the boom itself. any help is appreciated!

Hi

I also replied on the Yahoo site. Seal's Spars sells the entire boom and gooseneck. He is a good guy. Kind of old school and will insist that you call to place the order. I think he does that so he can talk to you and make sure you getting the right part. He also is good about talking you through any installation issues. I've ordered spreaders from him before ....If you just want the gooseneck you can get one (I recently did) from Catalina Direct. The Catalina 22 and 25 use the same gooseneck as the Balboa.

Seals Spars is good to require to call as there are many diff. kinds of parts out there and the fact that he wants to get you the right one is the correct way. I did that as a sailboat dealer as well. Call it old school but to get the right part the first time is the only way I go.

thanks for the response! I gave them a call, and they do have what I need. I suppose at this point I just have to decide which route to go. I've thought about buying a boom listed on ebay, says its 11 feet long...150 bucks

yes, I mean it's not for a balboa 26, but I was thinking I could attach all of my hardware, it's straight looking and looks to have the gooseneck cast piece in the end atleast. which is really what I need, a stronger/straighter boom, with gooseneck I could hook to my slide. I'm 99% sure my slide is ok. it's still on my mast I'm certain. from looking at the sail deminsions online I feel like an 11 foot 1 inch boom would fit nicely, am I thinking correct?

Too long is better than too short. I think our boom is only 10' but I'm not certain about that. If it is too long, you can always take the end cap off, hacksaw and put the cap back on. Easy-peasy.

ok cool, it's 35 bucks I think. by the way it looked like that seller had several booms of all sizes on there. they were old salvaged pieces (new old stock) looks like he has a whole rack of them, like he scavenged them from some bone yard etc.

I found two booms locally, a catalina 27 and an O'Day 27. both are the same length with the gooseneck assemblies. I measured our Balboa 26 boom last night at over 11 feet 4 maybe 5 inches I believe. mine is actually so bent I'm not real confident in that exact length.
The two booms I found locally are both right at 11 feet but that includes the gooseneck assembly. at first glance they are simply too short

my real question is this. the sailplan data for all of the three boats in question, B26 Cat 27 and O'day 27 are very close in main sail foot length. the Balboa is 10.75 and the other two both are 10.5. is that .25 of a foot (3 inches) going to kill the deal for me? what if it were slightly too short would I notice the difference etc?

these booms are a good deal and look way beefier than our Balboa boom, I'm rather inclined to try to make it work. any input?

The thing that comes to mind is the out-haul for the main. You need to be able to flatten the sail in a blow. If your main is very "stretchy" you may find that you will pull it all the way to the end and have no room left on the boom. You said the booms were local. Will the person let you take it home and fit your sail to it? If it works, it works...
