Hi I have water build up under the engine when motoring long distances its dry all other times. It has a Volvo drip less shaft bearing. It seems to fill all three of the chambers equally. Any similar experiences, thoughts ??
Thanks,
Jay

Salt or fresh water?
If salt is the volvo drip less indee dripless?
What about the vended loop? Is it working properly?
What about that nipple bringing in water in the shaft? If it has failed be very careful. Don't touch it or move it. You will need to lift the boat out of the water to fix it.

Water Buildup on long trips

HI:
If it is a Yanmar engine, I was seeing a small water build up and while I was checking the move obvious, I finally changed out the water pump and now everything is fine. Note the water pump did not have that many hours on it, certainly less than 250hrs and I would have figured that it would have lasted much longer. Towards the end of this problem the water pump actually seized and I pulled it off and was able to free the turning of the pump so that all seemed fine and the engine ran with no problem. However, after the seizing occurring, I did not wish to take any chances. All the above, for what it is worth.

Check your vented loop in the cooling water. Clean or replace the Vetus vented
vented loop. This is the most common cause of sea water under the engine in Beneteaus.

Thanks to all

Thanks for the response. It is salt water and its a Westerbeke 30B. I will check out the vented loop. and let you know how I made out.

I have a 30B on my 331. I had a similiar leak and it turned out to be the raw water pump. It was a small drip that evolved into a big drip. It only leaked when the pump was running. It was very hard to detect. Check for it dripping when your motor is running. I had to replace the pump.

Same thing happened on my 331. Previous owner had replaced the impeller just before I bought the boat and did not tighten the cover screws down completely. Took a while to figure it out because it did not leak with thru hull closed. Flash light check of engine while running and the leak was very obvious.

I had the exact same problem driving me nuts for months and it turned out to be that the Ventus vented loop needed cleaning. I just happened to come across the bulletin a while back and that was the problem.
