Has anyone had any experience in removing the tek insert on the swim platform? I was thinking of removing it for the winter in order to refinish it rather than doing so while the boat is in the water. Any tips on removal would be appreicated.

Why do you want to remove the teak when A its is not that large a piece, B going through the trouble of removing then re-installing, what do you actually want to do to the teak...?

(a) I was going to lift it out and refinish over the winter months ( it has been cetoled) and (b) there is water getting in underneath it so I know the seal around the edge is no good.

Having a similar problem with my teak but up on one of the seats only, am amazed as to how much the cost of replacement of the teak inserts is.

As Joker said, I am of the opinion that they are glued in also.

Having the same issue on my 323. Instead of replacing the "teak" which looks like a piece of plywood anyway, I was looking at something like NuTeak or a similar material. Its not cheap either, but is potentially more maintenance free. Has anybody had any experience with that material?

The only section that I have had a problem with "so far" is the seating area on the starboard side, closest to the instrument panel, on our 2004 331. I was able to dig the loose black caulk away and I applied Get Rot, I beleive it is called, where the water would come out when I would put pressure on the wood. As I applied the Get Rot, which is very watery, I pushed down and released the wood seat to get the liquid to get under the seat. I did this quite a few times. Later, after it had plenty of time to cure, re-did the black caulk. I sanded the seats and applied the Tropical Sealer that I use. I did this in the spring, so far so good. www.bumsrest331.blogspot.com Camper pics come up first, but our last trip South in our B 331 comes up later.

Not sure why any horizontal surface on a boat would be covered with Cetol. It's smooth, slippery and a very dangerous surface when wet. Sand the Cetol off, then give it a good wash with a mild abrasive soap. Use a 3M pad (medium rough). Wash it every other week and it will always look great.

The Beneteau USA website used to have a FAQ section that described repair of peeling teak inserts. The FAQ section is gone but customer service can send you repair instructions. The insert is a ply-backed single piece that you glue down and seal the perimeter with a polysulfide teak caulk. They also sell replacement inserts.

As Ducati notes, forget the cetol coating. That grippy teak surface is there for a good reason. I don't recommend sanding it either, sanding breaks the caulk/wood bond. Scrub it clean and oil it. Avoid the harsh cleaners and scrub it more often with a brush or pad.
