Thanks to the many great replies here and time spent looking over several B331s, I've narrowed my list of choices down to a Beneteau... and I thought I was sold on the 331. However, I keep seeing the 311 and notice it seems a similar layout up top, which is more important to me (as a day sailor) than below. It's also about $20k less, which is nice.
After selling my Catalina 250 (4K lbs displacement) mainly to purchase a boat that would handle chop better (without bouncing over the short chop), and a boat that could stand up to 18-20kts better, I am concerned over the 311 being perhaps too light (at ~8K lbs)? I would only be able to buy a shoal or CB version, so slightly heavier, but still at least 3K lbs less than the 331.
I've scoured the web for info on the 311, but there's not a lot. I see they need to reef early, but I would be grateful if any owners out there could provide their thoughts on the sea kindliness of the boat and comfort in chop.
