when I power up my B&g Zeus touch, the system thinks the date is November 2nd 2000. I can't find any way to set the date and I would assume it would be getting the date from the GPS system anyway. any thoughts on what is wrong?

There was a GPS Epoch Rollover last year that caused exactly this type of issue. Think Y2k but for the GPS protocol. B&G released a software update that you'll probably need to apply by downloading the update and putting it on a micro SD card. Update is available from Software.
