The guy who lifted my Vega out said it weighed 3 tons..
Or was that tonnes (metric)?

The "advertised" displacement of a Vega is 5,070 pounds IIRC. That is empty, dry tanks, and no cats. My trailer itself is supposed to weigh 1,600 pounds. The trailer is designed for 7,500 pounds.Alan

Don’t forget the tow vehicle either. I just moved mine about 3 miles with a ’94 F150, and even with sway control and a weight distribution hitch, it was frankly a bit much for the truck – didn’t want to go above 45mph, and tended to “hobby horse” a bit on bumps. This was on flat ground as well. I’d recommend if you are going any distance or in hills, be sure to have a ¾ ton or larger pickup, with proper electric brakes for safety.

I had the crane operator who has a digital read out in his cab inform me that mine came in at waight of 6200lb. This was a bit of a shock as I thought that it had the book waight of 5070lbs.
When I picked up my boat in Texas, this old fart warned me that my boat could be 1,000 pounds heavier than I thought. He claimed that fiberglass boats suck water and he has been drying out boats for guys for years. He said he takes the boats to an area in Texas that is hotter then the hubs of hell and leaves them there for 6 months. That was his info. I think Chuck (LeaLea) is going to hull out this year for bottom paint. It would be interesting if Chuck could weigh his boat? It has been in the water for a while. Larry and Alan, thank you for the heads up - certainly a consideration. Guess I'd better take a conservative approach.To weigh the boat I'd need a trailer and to buy a trailer the weight needs to be about right. Looks as if it'd be as well to allow an additional tonne to the 2,300 Kg book weight. Although my boat is in a yard, drying will be slow - we enjoy a lot of rain!Thank you for your replies.Nigel.

A fiberglass 27' boat will absorb water but not much in weight. Most of the weight will be gear and fluids aboard.
Brian 100% correct. Fiberglass can absorbs a water like everything around, and dry like everything around, but all differences fit within 5-10%. Other extra weight - liquid and gear.
