Awful Compression Post Noise

I once thought I cured my noise in the compression post by untying the table counter weight. Bad news!. It's still there. My post clangs so much on certain rolls of the boat that the table actually vibrates. It actually sounds as if it is the pulley because the weight must be on the floor. Since there are only two wires coming thru the compression post, I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone else have this clanging intermittant noise? Is it the pulley? I'm convinced it's in the post after listening to the mast above when it starts clanging. Chuck Wolfe@innocent.com

Compression Post -Legend 37.5

Sorry I omitted the type of boat. It's a 1992 37.5 Legend.

Solution: tap screw

Had same problem with my 30T. Solved it by putting a tap screw that hit the weight. Now that took some thinking so as not to "screw up" the movement of the table up and down. But it worked for the noise, and by completely removing the screw, I could move the table using the weight. I put the screw on the forward side of the support pole so that it could not easily be seen. The screw does not have to very large in diameter, even 1/4 inch would do. But it should be no longer than necessary or you will be catching your hand on it if it is above the table. Careful when drilling and taping so as not to break the bits or the taps. On the 340, dropping the weight to the floor works, but obviously not in your case.

I love the idea of drilling and tapping and it would be below the table and not noticable but how can I determine exactly where the weight is in the post before I put a lot of holes in it? It is untied right
