I have just bought a 36 I've been told by registering it in Deleware and storing it in Georgia for 6 months I can avoid the sales tax in Florida. Are there any downsides to this strategy. The prospect of saving nearly 4000 us is very apppealing..jim
I'd check VERY thoroughly before pulling a scam like this. Most states frown on tax evasion and can become quite nasty. Most likely, what you're thinking is illegal and could end up costing you more than $4K if you get caught. LaDonna
Rick is correct. In Louisiana, we are fortunate enough to not pay sales tax on used boats. I see a lot of people from Mississippi and other areas of the Gulf Coast who buy their boats here and keep them here for a period of time before returning to their home state. This is not illegal as it follows the tax guidelines, as they are written.
