I'm planning to order an autopilot and have some questions on what I will
need to install it. The pilot will be the Simrad TP20. I got interested in
the Simrad (bought out Navico) after reading about it's new design and the
company's report of a successfull test, running for 24hrs fully submerged in
salt water. I plan to spend as little time as possible fully submerged.
The idea keeping the insides of the autopilot dry in poor conditions is
attractive.
How have folks installed their pilots? Does the tiller's resting height,
below seat level, affect installation? There are Simrad tiller brackets
that range from 1" to 5" below the the tller. I'm guessing that they could
be put on top of the tiller as well. Is something like that needed?
