Has anyone fitted an autopilot to their H29.5? I would be interested in your comments and suggestions! Thanks

I did , an Autohelm 4000

...4.5 years ago . It is very friendly and works faultless . one comment is that it works relatively a lot ( small movement to each side , but almost all time) . I fixed the head in the galley under the sink , down low. Some fried installed the 3000 version ( belt) but likes mine more ( me too).

I did the 4000+ also

On my 97 H 29.5. Installed it myself last summer. Did involve a fair amount of work to fit ti the console, position head and drill hole to acomodate it, etc. Measure twice, cut once is a minimum. Make sure it clears the steering chains, other walls in the console, etc. Still fine tuning the settings but love the ability to let go and relax, adjust rigging, raid the fridge, single hand, etc.

I have auto-pilot

I have Autopilot 4000 on mine as well and it is wonderful !! It's that extra hand you always wish you had when you need to leave the helm or when you have landlubbers or prima donnas on board. It's pricey, but well worth it - you'll wonder how you ever managed before. When cruising, you set it and forget it - you can kick back in a rail chair and fire up a frosty !!! It's great. Do it !

Another option - carried now by Simrad - doesn't require mounting a panel as does the 4000. Can be see on Simrads web page - simrad.com. About $960 through Defender
