Since I added a solar panel on my stern pulpit, I've had problems with my Autohelm ST 1000 tiller pilot. It's about 24" away, with an aluminum frame. The tiller pilot is instantly wildly variable (90 degrees). I tried resetting it for deviation to no avail. Do you think the solar panel is the real problem or has my autopilot bitten the dust?

without the panel?

Have you pulled the panel and tried it again to see if that's the problem?

Not yet.

No, I haven't. An obvious test, but it wasn't until today that I remembered that the issue began after I installed the panel. I just would be surprised that the electrical currents in the panel would be enough to mess up the compass in the autopilot. Won't be back to the boat until Memorial Weekend, but will try it them.
