I've got a Hunter 31 (1985) with a Navico 5000 autopilot that is not functioning and was not successfullly repaired by two different electronic techs. Navico is out of business and I'm told there are no parts in the marketplace. Is there a 2nd hand market, if so where? Can the Ray Marine autohelm be installed in place of the Navico and work as well? David

I believe that Navico, Simard and B&G are now one company. The Wheel Pilots from Navico/Simard were good products. You may want to do a little research on the WP30/WP32 and see if there are any them floating around the used market.

Steve, which "markets' or websites would you search? I've done very little of this before.

Caper, I replaced my SPX5 Smartpilot with a linear drive about a year ago, after being used for one season. I also have a spare wheel drive that was used for half a season. All you need is the cable that runs from the course computer to the control head. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Sorry I don't have a Raymarine platform with 'course computer' so I don't see a way to adapt without significant additional expense. I just need a 'wheelpilot' that will function on its own separate from any navigational devices.

The course computer is an integral part of the autopilot - it's not all about the control head in the cockpit. Autopilots also have a fluxgate compass so they can steer the magnetic course you specify.

I'm just looking for an easy replacement of a belt driven wheelpilot wiithout the expense of connecting with a navigational platform. Thanks for your interest
