Autopilot - Pedestal Bracket

I'm replacing the wheel drive on my Raymarine Autopilot.

While I suppose it really doesn't matter. I'd like to understand what the Pedestal Bracket actually does. Before I took the new drive unit apart to begin the installation prep I foolishly assumed the belt somehow used it for an anchor. But looking inside that doesn't appear to be the case.

Can anyone enlighten me on what it does please?

Unless I'm mistaken, the bracket prevents the back half of the wheel pilot from turning. This effectively allows the pilot to move the wheel.

Of course. I was trying to make it way to complicated. It's just a mechanical stop that pokes into the back.

Thanks

My pedestal bracket didn't line up properly so I made one using a bolt and some starboard.
