I have not searched the archives, yet, but has anyone had problems installing a Navico WP 30 pilot on an H27 with the Yachting Specialties pedestal? This question is prompted by a Sailnet review that stated that the unit was rubbing the wheel. The review was not specific about the boat and/or pedestal. Thanks in advance!

The Related Link will take you to Richard McDonald's installation photos. Or search the Photo Forum for "WP30". I am not familiar with your pedestal but have not read or heard of problems. Maybe you can tell from the pictures. The Navico kit is made for a 4" round pedestal. Richard and I have the same boat and installed the same way using a heavy 6" rubber coupler available at Lowes or Home Depot. I do not understand "rubbing the wheel" since it actually attaches to the wheel. The only potential problem I have heard about is clearance of the shift lever to my Navico clutch lever. It is close on my Edson installation(H37C). If your pedestal is not round then you need a special kit from Simrad. The older Navico and the newer Simrad are identical except in color.

I have the same pedestal you mentioned...

and I mounted my wp-30 with no problems. My Hunter 33 (1982) has the same pedestal you mentioned and there is no clearence problem for me. You do have an adjustment on the unit to slide it in and out, that is closer or further from the wheel which I suppose could be mis adjusted to rub the wheel somehow. Happy with my unit .. almost 11/2 years now.
