Plan to install a Simrad WP10 on a 1980 h27. I'm aware of problems with the wheel diameter but was concerned with possible interference with the WP10 and the transmission and fuel levers. Has anyone had any experience with such an installation? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Auto Pilot Hunter 27

I have been searching the net investigating Autopilots. Raymarine St 3000 and 4000 seem to have more clearance for the engine controls. I downloaded the operating and installation manual which has detailed information and dimensions which Simrad does not provide on their WEB site. My big concern however is clearance with an Edson Pedestal Guard. According to Edson their guard fits the Hunter 27 pedestal which was manufactured by Yacht Specialties of Santa Ana Cal. According to Edson their 336 pedestal is identical to the Hunter 27 pedestal. I plan on going through the info from Raymarine and Edson and will check my control lever(s) clearances. I will post the results.

You can adjust the lever angles.

William: I am assuming that you have the Y/S Merriman pedestal?! If this is the case you can move your positions There is a bolt in the inside of the pedestal. Loosen the bolt and move the lever forward and then retighten. This should take care of the problem. I have a Simrad WP on our Hunter 31. We probably have a larger wheel but there is no problem with clearance of the lever and the AP. If you have a Edson you may be dealing with some other problem.

Works fine

I have a 1980 H27 with a Merriman Pedestal. I installed the WP30 which is the same size and have no clearance problems. I did have to shim the pedestal with some PVC pipe to make it bigger in diameter for the WP to hold better. Email me if you have any questions. wrenninger3@comcast.net
