Hi there. I own a 94 First 310 and am considering installing a autopilot. She's equiped with a Whitlock pedestal wheel system. what is the best option? under the deck? on deck on the wheel system? which model is the best for this boat?

Best is a subjective term

to some it means cheapest, to others it means most convenient, and to others it means top performer. If you have the budget, I think an under-deck is the way to go. Wheel pilots are certainly less expensive, but the almost always need to be set up every time, and taken off the mount and they and the control head put below when you leave the boat. Under deck units, once past the first cost of installation, are permanently mounted in place, with a control head at the helm, ready to go at the push of a button. I've had wheel units and under deck, and I much prefer under deck.
