I would like to install an autopilot on my 1989 Hunter 30 but I am concerned about interference. My Edison helm has the trottle mounted on the starboard side and the gear shift mount aft between the pedestal and the wheel. Will either of these have to be move? Which pilot will fit? I like the Simrad WP5000 or WP30 will either of these fit? Thanks Steve

Close but Clears

Steve, I have a 88 30 with an Autohelm ST4000 . The shift and the drive wheel are close, but they clear with no modifications. I consider my autopilot the best addition that I have made to my boat. Frank

Don, is that a wireless or wired remote?

Don, is that a wireless or wired remote? Does your 30' Hunter also have the shifter between the pedestal and the wheel? Thanks for your response. steve voyce, Poulsbo WA.

Simard is wired.

Steve V (aka stevie): They are wired. But, I think that you can put plugs anyplace on the boat that you want. No reason that you could not have a couple of them. One in the cockpit and another in the v-berth. Just open the forward hatch and plug it in. You could steer from the bow (just think of the possibilites) all of the things that you could run into<g>.

The remote is wired like steve said it has a lot of cable and a socket you can mount it anywhere.simrad will include the remote if you buy at the right time and yes shifting is no problem. The wp30 is not a big unit best regards Don.
